This site is dedicated to the opposition of the construction of a Wal-Mart on the North-East corner of El Camino Real and College Boulevard.
There are three other Wal-Marts within a five mile radius of the proposed site; two in Oceanside and one in Vista.  All are situated near Freeway 78 in commercial corridors away from residential neighborhoods.

The proposed site is zoned local shopping, however a Wal-Mart does not meet the intended use of the site.  It was intended for a small grocery store and other small businesses that the local community (those homes in a 5 mile radius) would use on a regular basis.

A Wal-Mart would not satisfy the needs of the immediate community.  Even their own representatives have said they are attempting to draw customers from further south in communities like Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar to their stores.  If their plan works, these out of town shoppers will bring additional traffic and congestion beyond what was originally planned putting unintended strain on our infrastructure.  A new high school and several residential communities are either being built or in the final approval stages all along El Camino Real and will be in direct competition for road space especially at peak hours.

There are additional items of concern as well; increased crime, decreased property values, unfair labor practices.  These are not new issues.  Wal-Mart has achieved its reputation for a reason.  We have provided some information as well as links to studies on our Research page.
